Strain Profile

Thai (Thai Stick)

Thai (often referred to as Thai Stick) is a pure sativa landrace from Thailand. Known for its extreme potency, racy cerebral high, and citrusy-spicy aroma, it was introduced to the US by soldiers returning from the Vietnam War. It is notoriously difficult to grow but valued for its unique, unadulterated sativa effects.

Genetics & Lineage

Thai is a tropical landrace sativa adapted to a hot, humid climate. It grows incredibly tall with thin leaves and wispy, airy buds. It has a very long flowering time (up to 14 weeks), which makes it rare in commercial cultivation.

Thai genetics are a key component of Haze, AK-47, and Blueberry.

Effects & Characteristics

Thai is famous for its 'no ceiling' high. It is intensely energetic, sometimes bordering on nervous or jittery for inexperienced users. It is the opposite of a couch-lock strain.

The flavour is typically spicy, woody, and citrusy, with a bitter-sweet aftertaste often described as 'electric'.

Historical Context

'Thai Sticks'—buds tied to bamboo sticks with hemp fibre and sometimes dipped in opium—were a legendary import in the 70s. While the opium part was often a myth, the potency of the weed itself was real.

Why This Strain Still Matters

Thai provides the 'electric' side of the sativa spectrum. Modern breeders still use Thai genetics when they want to inject vigour and potency into a boring hybrid line.
